Swimming Pool or Did I say a Neighborhood Swimming Pool?

One day last week the wife and I were very bored and it was during a heat wave. It topped 105 degrees and thats is pretty warm for Alabama. Especially in June.

We went to Toys R Us to find something fun to do in the heat with our son. We ended up finding a above ground pool at Walmart. It is a 12 foot diameter pool and 3 feet deep approximately. We were very excited and could not wait to get in it. It took me about an hour to put it together. We decided on a metal frame style instead the “rise as you fill it kind”. Our Golden Retriever was less likely to puncture it.

We began to fill it up. Noah and I decided to get in it when it was about 4 inches deep to get the wrinkles out of the bottom of the pool. HE LOVED IT! 6 hours later……….. It was finally full. And it was about 9 :30 at night. Noah and I went outside checke don it andI plugged in the filter pump and got the chemicals about 3 steps in the back door. I turned around and my son was diving head first into the pool. I had not yet put the ladder in it. He literally scaled the side of it and jumped in. WOW. Very Scary. He had no ideas what he was getting himself into. Neither did we. Fast forward to the next afternoon. We decide to go swimming, and invited the neighbors across the street to come over.

While we were swimming here comes a neighnbor that lives down the street and one street over from us. Towels in hand and her daughter already in a suit and floaties on.

I looked over at my wife and could see it on her face. The why can’t you finish a project look! Needless to say the privacy fence will be up next weekend.

Now dont get me wrong, I do not mind the neighbors swimming but at least wait to be invited, or wait for the birthday party. anyways…

WASHINGTON – The group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals wants the flyswatter in chief to try taking a more humane attitude the next time he’s bedeviled by a fly in the White House.

PETA is sending President Barack Obama a Katcha Bug Humane Bug Catcher, a device that allows users to trap a house fly and then release it outside.

“We support compassion even for the most curious, smallest and least sympathetic animals,” PETA spokesman Bruce Friedrich said Wednesday. “We believe that people, where they can be compassionate, should be, for all animals.”

During an interview for CNBC at the White House on Tuesday, a fly intruded on Obama’s conversation with correspondent John Harwood.

“Get out of here,” the president told the pesky insect. When it didn’t, he waited for the fly to settle, put his hand up and then smacked it dead.

“Now, where were we?” Obama asked Harwood. Then he added: “That was pretty impressive, wasn’t it? I got the sucker.”

Friedrich said that PETA was pleased with Obama’s voting record in the Senate on behalf of animal rights and noted that he has been outspoken against animal abuses.

Still, “swatting a fly on TV indicates he’s not perfect,” Friedrich said, “and we’re happy to say that we wish he hadn’t.”

Deputy press secretary Josh Earnest said the White House has no comment on the matter.

So my wife planned a special day for me. it was my birthday. She called and asked about lawn signs. 30 of them to be exact. she wanted a herd of cows planted in the front yard, to kick off my 30th birthday. She canceled it before they did it though, because all of her friends told her that I would not be happy about it. I laughed about it and told her to do what she wants and not to take her friends so seriously sometimes. I however am glad she did not do it. At 2 dollars a sign, that would have been allot of dollars for some silly yard signs.

She also planned the rest of the day. 2 of her girlfriends agreed to watch the 2 boys so we could go out for a movie then dinner. We chose a matinee and then would go to a Carabbas for dinner. We decided on Land of the Lost. I thought it would be great. It was closer to a spoof on the original series. I was disappointed. But what was really disappointing, was the movie started 40 minutes late due to technical difficulties. The whole ordeal put the schedule behind and we did not get to eat.

We did however make out on the deal. I talked to one of the managers, let her know that this was the first date we had been on in quite a while, since we had 2 boys in the house ages 2 1/2 and 4 weeks old. She brought us 4 free movie passes. Yeah I know what good will they be since we never have time to go to a movie. We will just have to try harder at planning another day out.

Maybe our oldest could handle one of the kids movies playing right now???

So the high light of my day at work today was about 2 hours after I should have been able to go home. A new server spilt a whole pot of hot coffee on a guest. It splashed all over this guy and landed mainly in his lap. He of course had shorts on. The server runs around screaming that some of the coffee splashed her hand. Meanwhile I am supervising a trash run. The other manager is in the office handling cash. Another server (the guest actual server) tells the manager what has happened. She tells the server to just bring him a bottle of mustard and that should take care of everything. The server does what he is told.

After my trash run is complete I come in and am told what has happened by another server. this server is completely upset with the way it has been handled. I talk to the guest. I appologize profusely. He is not angry about what has happened. He is upset about the fact that it took 10 minutes for a manager to come out and speak with him. i sat there speaking with him about it. and continue to appologize. I notice that there was a bottle of mustard actually given to him for the burn. I ask him if he would like a bottle of burn spray to cool the burn off.

He says no. He said he wpould love to know the number of a good lawyer around town. Long story short: He was not serious about a lawyer, but he really could not believe that a manager had an emplyee bring out a bottle of mustard to help his burn.

What has happened to common sense?….

A New Member of the Family

We decided to introduce a new member to our family. After taking 5 days to name him. Our Golden Retriever Puppy. He has been a blast but also quite a challenge. Potty Training and teaching him not to jump or chew has and still is a challenge.

I really think blogging would be a great thing to do. Share some funny stories, tough times, and just all around share the good and the bad. I just do not know if I will ever actually do it. Well, I am going to give it a try. So here it is. Any ideas? Let me know

Privacy Fence

So I decided to put a privacy fence in my backyard. I bought all of the post 4x4x8 and fence supports 2x4x8. I also rented a post hole digger. All this wood is sitting in the back yard. I begin to dig the first of 26 holes and the digger gets stick and will not comeout of the hole. I work on it going forward and reverse for like 20 minutes. Finally I decide to add water to the mix and it loosens up enough to come out. I get to the next spot and begin to dig, this takes like 45 seconds to complete 2 8 inch 3 foot hole. Then I realize that I have just cut into a black cable. Looks like a tv cable of some sort. What fun this project is going to turn into. I called a 1 800 number ot have all lines located and marked. I just pray that this line I hit is not in use anymore. My project is at a stand still until I can get everyone out here to look at my yard. Not happy about it. Stupid on my part for not doing what was necessary in the beginning. who knew they would bury a line less than 3 inches from an existing fence.

So at work we are having trouble with some of our cost controls. Our corporate office decided to set up a meeting off site and discuss this with all of our employees. What a great idea. So we all meet up and are waiting on the meeting to start. One of the corporate guys (our District manager) is talking to my General manager. And asked “Why did one of the employees leave before the meeting started?” Now let me tell you I am 2 rows back in this auditorium. And could hear very clearly. Dean (my gm) does not respond. However the District manager continues on and says. “he’s a funny fellow isn’t he.” It’s amazing what people will say when they do not think others can hear them. This conversation continued on for awhile. My boss Dean actually never says a word. He continues on about how this employee is a rather odd sort. I was just shrinking further and further into my seat as I realized the rest of his co workers could hear the whole conversation. It’s just amazing how often people just can not resist talking about others.
